My ex boyfriend, Doug, got engaged this weekend. I am actually really happy for him .. he has always wanted to settle down. I wish his girlfriend was less of a lush and more of a lady.. but, close enough I guess.
When we used to date, we always talked about proposals.. I always said that I didn't think it should be on a holiday (just because I'm selfish and want my own day
) and it should be unique.. Doug emailed me and was so proud of himself for thinking outside the box. It's actually really sweet.. he took Christmas lights and wrote out 'Marry Me' in the grass. He set the yard up with tiki torches, candles, and wine. She wasn't expecting it at all either, which is the best part!
I had another friend who was very artistically gifted. He created a 3-D sculpture out of abstract angles (made with papers, cards, etc.. ) It looked just like a sculpture to the naked eye, but when you put a light behind it, it projected, 'Kell, Will you marry me' onto the wall! That was freakin' awesome.
Do you have any fun proposals, or maybe your favorite story?

My uncle had a really funny proposal for his second wife.
I don't remember all the details of how he set it up, but I think he arranged with her boss to tell her that there was a big important dinner party with a big important client, or something like that.
So, she went to pick my uncle up at his apartment and he was still in his boxers, watching TV. She was all pissed because she thought she'd be late to this important work function. So he went into the bedroom to get ready but was taking forever. She was out in the living room, screaming at him, freaking out. Then he yells out, "Hon? Will you bring me a glass of chocolate milk?" She was all pissy but went to the fridge. And on the shelf, in front of the chocolate milk carton, was a ring, with a little note saying "Will you marry me?"
My uncle came downstairs in his nice suit and she said yes, and he took her out for a fancy dinner.
1Hahaha.. that's awesome to get her all riled up and then sweep her off her feet.
2That was really cute of your ex bf Linds. I don't have any fun stories, in Peru it is usually a more formal and completely pre-planned affair.
3My friend proposed to his now-wife by planning a candlelit picnic by a lake and singing and playing a song he wrote for her on his guitar.
It sounds so nice and romantic, but I think I'd be so embarrassed!
4I've had a cpl of guys sing to me and I swear I didn't know what to do, it was awkward.
5Hahaha, me too, Whip. That's like Wedding Singer style. It would be sweet, but I wouldn't know what to do with myself.. Do I look away? What am I supposed to do? Haha..
6I don't even want a guy to get down on his knee. Even if we were alone, I think I'd be embarrassed. I don't do romantic very well.
7Those are cute, sweet proposals.
I don't know of any good stories. Jason didn't even ask him to marry me. I was at work, I reached under our counter for an appointment book, he grabbed my hand, I felt something cold, and I pulled it up to see a ring on my finger. I smiled really big at him, he kissed me, and I went back to working until one of my bosses noticed the ring and got all excited for us and started screaming and telling everyone that came into the shop. We're very low-key!
8I don't have any interesting stories but the Christmas lights rock!! How sweet
9I am dying laughing at "I wish his girlfriend was less of a lush and more of a lady.. but, close enough I guess."
I honestly have no stories. My husband kept hinting around that he had a nice gift for my birthday/christmas and I kept telling him I know he got me an engagement ring. I didn't know for sure but I guessed. It took the pressure off of him and he just went and got it and gave it to me. I don't even remember if he actually asked me to marry him. The proposal and acceptance was all just a given at that point.
10We were at a conference in Maui. We sat on the beach one night and he said "so babe, wanna get married" then there was a drunk guy singing a couple chairs down from us. So romantic
11Cute stories. I agree, having someone sing to you is awkward.

I think I would like being sung to...
My proposal started out with my husband "tipsy" telling party guests at our house, "ya'll know this girl's been living here with me...:candyisshockedandconfused: when I turned to look/ glare/WTF at him, he was down on one knee with the ring, and he said, "I want to know if she'll live here with me forever." Aw!
I couldn't believe he publicly proposed like that. Its not like him, but TOTALLY like me so it was perfect!
13Candy, that is so sweet!
14Haha! Candy, I love your story! It's so awesome that he totally surprised you - in a way you'd appreciate. Aww..
